Description and evaluation/comments:
  • This is a great dictionary for ESL students. By clicking on the icon of a microphone, you can hear both the British and the American pronunciation of words (however, please note that not all the words come with this feature).
  • Each definition also comes complete with example sentences to demonstrate how the word is used. More common words often come with multiple examples. For nouns, the definition will specify whether they are countable or noncountable. It also gives you the British equivalent of terms that are different in the U.K. (i.e. elevator vs. lift)
  • If you scroll to the bottom of the main page, there is a guide to reading the International Phonetic Alphabet so that you can determine the pronunciation of words without the audio feature.
